2017 Summit Program Now Available

Karate Canada is very proud to release the first version of its official Program / Information Bulletin for the upcoming 2017 Annual Summit, which will once again be held at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre, from October 12th to October 15th inclusively.

This exciting event will offer elite kumite and kata training sessions with world-renown international Guest Star Instructors and with our National Team Head Coaches, as well as seminars and clinics for Coaches / instructors, Officials, athletes, and Provincial / Territorial Association staff and administrators.

A visible notice will be posted on Karate Canada's website and its social media once pre-registration becomes available, and Provincial / Territorial Association Presidents will receive email notification of this as well. 2016 Summit A Success

Karate Canada is proud to report that attendance at the 2016 edition of its annual Summit surpassed all of the other recent editions, with 110 participants. This event was overall a considerable success, and gave many members (registrants) and for the first time, non-members, of Karate Canada a chance to get together and to take part in various workshops, seminars, meetings, trainings and conferences, benefiting our athletes, coaches, instructors, officials, leaders and administrators. Karate Canada also wishes to thank Karate Ontario, the Coaching Association of Canada and the Investors Group for their assistance and support in hosting this important event, as well as to thank the numerous participants, volunteers and staff involved in making this event such a success. Particularly, Karate Canada wishes to thank our Officials' Committee members Mr. Yaro Tarana (Chair), Mr. Andreas Kuntze and Mr. Babak Sotoudeh (who co-led a 2-day Referee Clinic), our 3 National Team Head Coaches (Mrs. Katarina Vadovicova, Mrs. Nassim Varasteh, and Mr. Denis Beaudoin, who led and / or co-led national kata and kumite trainings), the members of our Technical Advisory Committee (and examiners, who held national Dan testings), our Para-karate Committee Chair and National Para Team Coach Mrs. Heather Fidyk (who led a training and education for para-karate athletes and coaches), our Medical Chair Mr. Gus C. Kandilas (who led a seminar on Concussion Awareness and Management) and all the medical support staff, the members of our NCCP Committee Mr. Gérard Lauzière (Chair) and Mr. Gary Walsh (who co-led a 1-day NCCP Comp Dev karate-specific course), our High Performance Committee Chair Dr. Peter Davis (who offered a conference on Karate Canada’s new High Performance Plan and direction), as well as all participating athletes, referees and coaches and / or instructors. Last but not least, we wish to sincerely thank our two very special Guest Star Instructors, Mr. Davide Benetello (Kumite trainings) and Mr. Akio Tamashiro (Kata trainings), who generously shared their extensive expertise with our athletes and coaches in this rare visit to Canada.

We look forward to greeting all of you again soon in Québec City, QC, for our 2017 National Championships (February 24-26), and hope you will all join us again next year for our 2017 Summit!

Karate Canada wishes to sincerely congratulate Mr. Craig Vokey (President), Mr. Derek J. 2015 Summit: Hotel Reservations Advisory - UPDATE

Please be advised that the technical issues with the Toronto Airport Sheraton Hotel and Conference Centre's reservations system have been resolved. To compensate for this, the hotel has extended its deadline until September 14th. Please note that availability of rooms is limited.

Karate Canada is very honoured and excited to greet Mr. Gilles Cherdieu, from the French Karate Federation, as the Guest Star Instructor at the upcoming 2014 Summit, October 17-19 (in Toronto). Mr. Cherdieu is a living legend of sport karate, boasting no less than 5 World titles and 8 European titles (in individual and team kumite). He is also a world renown instructor and trainer, having worked for many years with such teams as France, Tunisia and Luxemburg. Mr. Cherdieu holds a French state-issued 2nd degree Sport Educator License, and holds a 6th Dan in karate.

Don't miss this great opportunity to train under this brilliant tactician and technician, who will lead kumite training sessions (with the help of our National Team Head Coaches) open to all provincial, national and international-level athletes (12 years and older), at the upcoming national Summit.

Dan Testing at Karate Canada 2014 Summit

Members of Karate Canada's Technical Committee will be at the Toronto Airport Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center on Saturday October 18th between 1-4pm to evaluate karatekas and provide National Dan Certification. 2013 Summit : Last minute news!

Judo Coach Mr. Pedro Guedes will be replaced by Mr. Mitchell Kawasaki, who will lead the Friday evening Cross Training Session.

During his illustrious competitive career, Mr. Kawasaki has gleaned no less than 7 National Champion titles, was crowned as Commonwealth Champion, and earned a 6th place at Olympic Games (in wrestling). As a coach, Mr. Kawasaki has also developed many elite athletes, one of whom competed in the 2000 Olympic Games. We look forward to seeing you on Friday night (18:30-20:30).

Online Registration Now Open for the 2013 KC Summit

Karate Canada is pleased to inform you that online pre-registration for athletes, coaches, referees, instructors, dojo owners/administrators, PSO/NSO Board members / representatives and PSO/NSO Staff is now open for the 2013 KC Summit, which will be held in Toronto, on November, 29th, 30th and December 1st.

All Summit attendees who pre-register online by November 12th will be entitled to a discount on the cost of registration fees. On site registration for participants who did not previously pre-register online will be subject to availability and will be subject to a higher fee. On–site registrants may not participate in the lunches/lunch conferences on Saturday and Sunday. Karate Canada cannot guarantee access to the event for everyone.You will also find all information about the venue, its location, lodging details and rates on the registration website.

The Summit is open to all adult Karate Canada members, and to Karate Canada junior members between the ages of 14-18, who are 1st Dan holders and/or are provincial-level elite competitors. Non-Karate Canada members are also welcome to attend (see conditions in program).

Today is the Early Registration Deadline for the 2012 Summit!

We'd like to remind our members that today, September 21st, is the final day to pre-register online with no late fee charge, for participation in the 2012 Karate Canada Summit, which will take place in Montreal, Quebec, on October 6 and 7. Please note that there have been slight changes to the schedule (the latest version is available below), in terms of room assignments, and with regards to Sunday's schedule of the afternoon session with Mr. Oliva Seba and Mr. Mantilla. Furthermore, a presentation on concussions is now planned for Saturday evening as well (to be confirmed shortly). Finally, please note that the Montreal Sheraton Centre has agreed to extend the deadline to benefit from discounted rental rates on their hotel rooms until September 25th. 2011 Karate Canada Summit a Success!

The 2011 Edition of Karate Canada's Summit and Symposium (offered in partnership with Karate Ontario) has been a resounding success, assembling approximately 100 participants, ranging from competitive athletes to coaches, club instructors and national or international referees. Karate Canada once again wishes to thank the WKF for its support of this very beneficial event, as well as its special guests, Mr Con Kassis and Mr Antonio Oliva-Seba, and our expert speakers Ms Suzanne Jean, Mr Jim Morrison, Mr Dragan Kljenak and Mr Zvonko Celebija. Furthermore, we wish to salute the work of our Technical Committee, who have proceeded with several Dan examinations over the weekend, and to sincerely thank our volunteers for their generous contribution to this event. We will soon issue a survey to all participants in order to collect feedback in hopes that this will enable us to further improve the format of the event for an even more successful edition in 2012 (tentatively scheduled for October 6-7). We look forward to greeting all of you again next year for this memorable event!
